A new charity has been
created in John Hanna's name
John was involved in ministries helping high risk youths, the homeless, and the jobless. John Kamal Hanna was born to Kamal and Aida Hanna in Egypt in 1970. John was second of three children, with Caroline the oldest and Jackie the youngest. He came to the United States at a mere 3 months of age. After finishing high school and beginning college, John became a licensed stockbroker during the 1990s. John, always deeply thoughtful, understood there was more to life than what he was experiencing. During 1999, he was transformed by God’s grace through belief in Jesus Christ. Thereafter, he initiated his studies at Nyack College, Nyack, New York. He graduated, with honors, from Nyack College in 2004, earning a degree in Pastoral Ministries. While at Nyack, he spent one year at Tanglewood Acres in Rockland County, New York, working with the mentally and physically challenged. John then completed an internship at Jacksonville Chapel, Lincoln Park, New Jersey. After graduation, John became Associate Pastor of Family Life at Jacksonville Chapel. John ministered, counseled, taught and encouraged many across northern and central New Jersey. He worked with adolescents and young adults at the Market Street Mission, both in Paterson and Newark, New Jersey. He also ministered to juveniles and adults in Morris County and Passaic County, working closely with those facing life’s deepest hardships, among them, runaways, the homeless and substance dependent. John also worked with the Mid East Evangelical Church in Jersey City, New Jersey. As director of the church’s Community Center, he assisted new immigrants, helping them to find employment, housing and furniture, registering them for ESL classes, enrolling children in school, and generally doing what was necessary to help them adapt to their new life in the United States. John is survived by his mother Aida, stepfather Dr. Safwat Youssef and his sisters Caroline and Jackie. John’s beautiful life left a lasting impression on
the many who knew him. His love, warmth, compassion, intelligence,
unmatched sense of humor and love of life will be fondly remembered
and deeply missed.
